I couldn't keep my attention on my breath: my mind wandered.


It's expected that your attention will wander from your breath during the Breath Awareness Meditation. That's fine. It's not a mistake: it's part of the process.


It's not necessary to concentrate hard on your breath to try to maintain awareness of it. It's just meant to be an easy focus that you return to when your mind has wandered.


Every meditation will be different and there will be times when you will have your awareness on the breath more. Just be easy about it. Easily come back to the breath when you notice you have lost awareness of it.


It doesn't matter if you come back for only one breath, or even if you remember to come back and then don't. However it happens is just fine!
