Rock Paper Scissors Shoot, also known as Rock Paper Scissors Lizard Spock, is a variation of the classic hand game that has taken the world by storm. Created by Sam Kass and Karen Bryla, the game was popularized by The Big Bang Theory TV show, where Sheldon and his friends play it as a frequent form of entertainment. In this article, we'll delve into the rules, strategies, and history of Rock Paper Scissors Shoot, and explore why it has become a beloved pastime among fans of the show and beyond.
History of Rock Paper Scissors Shoot
The origins of Rock Paper Scissors Shoot are closely tied to the TV show The Big Bang Theory, which premiered in 2007. In the show, the main characters often play the game as a way to resolve disputes, make decisions, or simply have fun. However, it's worth noting that the game itself predates the show, with the Lizard and Spock variants being developed by fans long before the TV show introduced it to the mainstream.
The Rules of Rock Paper Scissors Shoot
- Rock: A closed fist, representing solidity and strength.
- Paper: A flat hand, symbolizing flexibility and delicacy.
- Scissors: A V-shaped hand, representing sharpness and agility.
- Lizard: A bent wrist with the thumb and little finger extended, evoking the idea of a reptile.
- Spock: A split-hand gesture, inspired by the Star Trek character Mr. Spock, representing logic and intellect.
To play Rock Paper Scissors Shoot, participants simultaneously throw one of the five hand signals. The winning combination is as follows:
- Rock crushes Scissors (because rock can crush scissors)

- Rock crushes Lizard (because rock can crush a lizard)
