Can overheating affect my aquarium's filtration system? Yes, overheating can affect your filtration system. The internal components of filters can malfunction if the temperature becomes too high. Excessive heat can cause the motor to overheat, reducing its efficiency.
Fish Tank Temperature Too High

Equipment Maintenance to Prevent Overheating Sometimes, the reason for your fish tank temperature too high isn't the weather; it's the equipment inside the glass. A failing submersible pump or a "stuck" heater can turn an aquarium into a slow cooker overnight. Regular maintenance is your first line of defense.
Preventive Strategies: Avoid direct sunlight on aquariums, choose cooler locations for your tank , and routinely check equipment functionality to prevent overheating . Regular Monitoring: Test water temperatures weekly and observe fish behavior for early signs of heat stress, enabling proactive management of aquarium conditions.

The old Aquaclear HOB filters could run dry and heat up and stop working. But when they cooled down they would work again. Not sure about the newer models but hopefully they are the same. Make sure the water level in the aquarium is above the motor on the filter . If the water level is too low it won't suck water into the tank .

Mechanical filters do add some heat to the aquarium...whether that matters or not depends on precisely what you are doing with the tank (it's a problem for pico reefs, for example).
