Boundary and survey data, correspondence, letters, general orders, receipts, and historical data are also available from selected Iowa State Archives and Minnesota Historical Society manuscripts collections. Original materials include a miscellaneous set containing survey notes, general orders, a concert program, an early letter addressed to Fort St. Anthony, and various memoranda.

Contains information on weather, steamboats, saw and grist mills, Indians, the post office, Joseph R. Brown's ferry, the fur trade, fires on the post grounds, the post cemetery and prison, sale of the reservation to Franklin Steele, controversy over Lawrence Taliaferro's ownership of property on the reservation, and Minnesota regiments stationed at the fort during the Civil War. There are detailed descriptions of buildings and reports on their condition and their use.

Chaplin obtained a pension by special act of Congress, no. 65, approved on February 5, 1873. Includes correspondence between Chaplin and officials of the pension office, letters and affidavits from members of the Hunt family and military associates of Josiah Snelling, petitions, copies of bills before Congress, and other memoranda concerning her attempts to obtain a military pension as widow of Colonel Snelling. Among the papers is a copy of the army announcement of Snelling's death; biographical data on the Snelling and Hunt families; a letter from Thomas S. Jesup, quartermaster general of the United States Army (May 31, 1860) relating to the building of Fort Snelling and to Colonel Snelling; and other data on Snelling's career in the War of 1812.

Three items relating to the construction of the Round and Hexagonal towers at Fort Snelling (1938) appear to be misfiled and may have been added to this file.
