Bearing Off and Winning

Once all of your checkers are in your home board, you can begin bearing off, removing them from the board according to the dice rolls. If you bear off all 15 checkers before your opponent bears off any, you win a gammon, which counts as double the stake. If you bear off all checkers while your opponent still has checkers in your home board or on the bar, you win a backgammon, which counts as triple the stake. Understanding when to play safely versus aggressively during the bearing-off phase often decides close matches.

Doubling Cube and Strategic Depth

The doubling cube introduces a powerful strategic layer, allowing players to increase the stakes of the game during play. Originally placed at zero, the cube can be offered to double the stakes after the first roll and onward, with the option to accept, decline, or re-double.
