Tips for Using a Random Orbital Sander
To get the best results from your rented sander, follow these tips:
- Safety first: Always wear safety glasses and a dust mask. Consider using ear protection and a respirator for prolonged use.
- Choose the right sandpaper: Use sandpaper with the appropriate grit size for your project. Start with a higher grit (e.g., 120) for initial sanding and finish with a lower grit (e.g., 220) for a smooth finish.
- Apply even pressure: Hold the sander firmly with both hands and apply consistent pressure. Move the sander in straight lines, following the grain of the wood.
- Control dust: Use a vacuum with a HEPA filter to collect dust as you sand. Home Depot rents dust extractors for this purpose.
