Ye Ko Naing is a policeman from Alel Chaung Village in Rakhine State. He was arrested in July for allegedly working with the Arakan Army (AA).
In March 2020, the Burmese Government declared the Arakan Army (AA), which is fighting the military in Rakhine and Chin States, a terrorist organisation under the Unlawful Associations Act. Many civilians have been arrested for supposedly being involved with the AA.
Ye Ko Naing was charged under Section 50 (j) and 52 (a) of the Counter Terrorism Law, and sentenced to three years in prison in October. He was accused of allegedly helping the AA while on duty at Sanae Police Station in Kyaukpyu Township.
According to his family members, he was sentenced without his lawyer presence. He is currently serving his prison sentence in Kyaukpyu Prison in Rakhine State.
