About the company
KDDI Corporation
KDDI is a Japanese telecommunications company. In 2014 it formed a joint venture with Sumitomo Corporation to set up KDDI Summit Global Myanmar Co., Ltd, which entered into a joint venture with Myanma Posts and Telecommunications (MPT). Since the attempted military coup in February 2021, the state-owned part of the joint venture is now under the control of the Burmese military, meaning KDDI and Sumitomo are in a joint venture with the military. Following the military coup, MPT has installed surveillance technology on the orders of the Burmese military.
