Egypt demands urgent explanation from Ethiopia over reports of dam filling

July 15, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – Furious Egyptian government has demanded that Ethiopia – which had announced earlier today that it started filling a controversial dam – give an explanation if the reports of the dam’s filling are true.
Egyptian foreign ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafiz said in a brief statement on Facebook that the government of Egypt was monitoring the ongoing reports and satellite images which suggest that Ethiopia has started to fill the dam.
He said his government has “demanded an immediate explanation and clarification from the Ethiopian authorities as to whether those reports are concrete or not.”
Earlier on Wednesday, state media in Ethiopia quoted the country’s Water Minister Seleshi Bekele as saying that the country has started to fill the GERD’s reservoir.
However, a few hours later, the minister denied that the filling process had started.
