Kiir forms committee to manage economic crisis

August 25, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has this evening issued a Republican Order establishing a economic management committee to handle the current economic crisis.

The committee announced on the state-ran South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) would work to consolidate none-oil revenues to help in the country’s financial improvement which has been affected by war, COVID-19 and the decline in oil prices.

The committee which will be led by the country’s vice-president for economic cluster James Wani Igga would comprise ministers of finance, trade and industry, petroleum, mining, governor of Central Bank, police inspector general, deputy director of the national revenue authority, vice-chancellor of the University of Juba and the director of National Security Service.

The formation of the committee comes a few days after the Central Bank of South Sudan announced that it has run out of foreign reserve exchange amid reports of corruption in the financial institution.
