The governor is accused of graft for allegedly misappropriating funds granted by the world bank.

The governor is set to be charged alongside four other top county officials with conspiracy to commit economic crimes, willful failure to comply with public finance law and misappropriation of public funds.

They will also face charges of abuse of office and engaging in projects without prior planning.

The governor will spend the night at the EACC custody and he will be arraigned in court on Tuesday.

According to the EACC investigations report, the money was unlawfully diverted to others projects that it was not intended for. These projects are presumably nonexistence.

According to a report that was shared by the director of public prosecution, Noordin Haji, the 233 million Kenyan Shilling was channeled to the county government and were in turn transferred to the Garissa Municipal Board and subsequently to individuals’ accounts.

The money was meant for construction of Qorahey market, re-carpeting of Garissa Township CBD roads and construction of storm water drainage and pedestrian walk ways.

Hon. Ali Korane is the sixth governor to appear before EACC after Mike Sonko, Moses Kasaine, Muthomi Njuki, Okoth Obado and Anne waruguru. They were all facing charges of misappropriation of county funds.
