JUBA – South Sudan’s ministry of health has announced that doctors have detected two new variants in the world’s youngest country saying the cause is the interaction at borders with neighboring countries.

According to the ministry of health, the two new variants are A 231 and B1.5.2.5. The A231 type was first detected in Uganda while the second-one is a well-known variant originating from the United Kingdom and is widely popular in Nigeria.

“These variants are associated with higher transmission at the borders, their original countries and higher global movement, and probably they were responsible for the second wave in the country,” Dr. John Rumunu, director of Preventive Health Care Services said.
