JUBA – A communal clash among young cattle herders in South Sudan’s Lakes State on Wednesday left three people dead and two others wounded with gunshot injuries, police said.

Major Elijah Mabor Makuac, Lakes State police spokesperson, told Sudans Post that the deadly fight erupted between youths from the Tiak and Bhoor sections of Malek Payam in Rumbek Central County. \

The location of the clash was the Alual-dol cattle camp.

“This fighting led to the killings of three people, and two others sustained gunshot wounds on both sides,” Makuac said. “Security forces intervened to calm down the security situation.”

Makuac acknowledged the ongoing investigation into the cause of the fight.

“We are still investigating the cause of the fighting and identifying the suspects to arrest them. We are also trying to find out what triggered the fight,” he said.

“There was no clear information about the issue initially, but according to the first report we received, we were just told that the fighting erupted when youth from Bhoor were migrating from Awai coming to this side.

“However, the exact reason for the violence upon reaching Alual-dol is unclear. We are investigating whether this is connected to past grievances or some other cause.”
