Elizabeth Nyadak Jock, the state minister of information, told Sudans Post on Monday that the victims were ambushed at Walgak Payam of Akobo County by armed youth suspected to have come from Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA).
“The women are from Uror County and along their way, the Murle attacked them and killed three mothers and took seven children including two months old baby, a two-years-old baby and a three-year-old child,” she told Sudans Post in her office in Bor.
The senior state government official added that local youth tried to follow the attackers but were unable to trace them and noted that the children included a two-month-old baby.
“The youth went after them and they did not get them (attackers) and they came back home with nothing happening,” she said.
“So, the attackers went with those children even though my worry is the two-month-old child,” she added.
Nyadak urged Pibor authorities to investigate and rescue the abducted children from the hands of armed youth.
“My call to the GPAA government is to let them investigate because there is no criminal without a family,” she said.
She further added that Jonglei state government remains committed toward peaceful coexistence with GPAA.
For his part, Abraham Kelang Jiji, minister for information in Greater Pibor Administrative Area said his government is not aware of the Akobo County road ambush.
“I didn’t know because Akobo County commissioner and the Likuangulei County commissioners they have communication concerning peace dialogue between youth and chiefs from Akobo and Likuangulei to go and meet in a place called Burmai for peace dialogue, so I am not aware of that incident,” he said.
