AWEIL— A 35-year-old man has died after an apparent drowning in a deep pool in Aweil North County of South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, an official said.

Paramount Chief Yor Achien Achien told Sudans Post that the individual identified as Ajou Akueny Akueny was seen bathing in a pool in Mayen-Ulem and apparently drowned on Tuesday.

“Ajou left the markets, according to those who saw him, and was seen bathing in the pool, which was dug during the construction of the highway by the Eyat company in 2008. The pool is commonly known as a haffir, and eventually she drowned,” said Achien.

Chief Achien stated that this incident has increased the number of individuals who have drowned in the same pool to three.

“This is something that is worth being shocked about—losing such people in a miserable way,” he said.

Achien advised individuals to refrain from bathing in the deep pool to avoid fatalities.

Last week, a local medic in Aweil South County reportedly died while walking home after collapsing in a body of water.

This has sparked fear among local residents, as certain areas are starting to experience flooding.

People are unsure how to care for children and the elderly amid flooding.
