JUBA, MARCH 23, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – There are contradicting reports reaching Sudans Post that at least four senior government officials who were on a tour to three states of Bahr el Ghazal region with President Salva Kiir Mayardit were wounded on Wednesday in an accident.

Stephen Lual, member of parliament representing South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) said the minister of wildlife conservation & tourism Rizik Zechariah Hassan, minister of culture, museum & national heritage Nadia Arop Dudi, transport minister Madut Biar, were wounded in a road accident.

The accident, according to the lawmaker, occurred after one of the vehicles driving in front of the senior government officials’ cars abruptly stopped.

“They were wounded when one of the cars in front of them unexpectedly stopped. Now they have been taken to Juba and their wounds are very, very light and there is nothing happening,” the parliamentarian told Sudans Post on phone.

He added that the deputy speaker of parliament Kornelio Akon was also wounded in the accident.

But speaking to Sudans Post separately, a senior government official in Aweil told Sudans Post on condition of anonymity that others involved in the accident include minister of youth and sports Albino Bol Dhieu,  and his roads and bridges counterparts Simon Mijak.

“The minister of youth and the minister of roads are also wounded and they are among the team flown to Juba from Aweil,” the source added.

There was not immediate release from the government.
