JUBA — South Sudanese health officials announced on Sunday that four frontline healthcare workers have tested positive for COVID-19.

The confirmed cases include: 3 healthcare workers in Central Equatoria and 1 in Eastern Equatoria State.

Dr. Angelo Guop, Manager of the COVID-19 Emergency Operations Centre said they are under home-based care management and are in stable condition.

“These four healthcare workers who got infected were not vaccinated but they are in good health and under home-based care management,” Guop told reporters during the routine Sunday weekly briefing on COVID-19 at Emergency Operation Center (EOP) in Juba

Guop said four healthcare workers who got infected were not vaccinated.

“We have vaccinated a good number of healthcare workers and up to now we don’t have any healthcare worker vaccinated contract the diseases,” he said.

He said the frontlines workers got infected outside health facility.

The four new confirmed cases brought the total number of frontline workers who contracted the virus to 265 since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country in 2020.

The world youngest nation has so far vaccinated 10,000 frontline healthcare workers since it launched the COVID-19 vaccinations in April this year.

The country far reported 10,799 infections and 118 deaths.
