Kuajok — Local authorities in South Sudan’s Warrap State said on Tuesday that 45 cattle raided last month had been recovered from attackers.
On 27 March, suspected armed youth from Unity State attacked Turalei Payam, killing six people, injuring three, and raiding 305 cows.
Joh Mabior Marup, acting commissioner of Twic County, told Sudans Post on Tuesday that cows located last month were recovered by South Sudan People’s Defense Forces.
“We are cooperating with the authorities in Unity State, and the SSPDF forces have retrieved 45 cattle, and the government of Mayom County is working around the clock to recover the cattle for us,” said Mabor.
Mabior said 260 cattle remain at large.
“As we move from one cattle camp to another, we identify the cows from our sides and amass them to call us and take them through SSPDF,” he said.
He said the government of Mayom is working together with the SSPDF forces to retrieve the remaining cattle.
The commissioner urged the youth to exercise restraint as the efforts are underway to bring back the cows.
He disclosed that of late, 200 cows were returned by Mayom County authorities that were looted by armed youth from the neighboring Unity State.
He pleaded with youth to abandon the looting activity and focus on developmental aspects.
