5 arrested in Juba over last month’s killing of 2 lactating mothers in Lakes

RUMBEK — Police authorities in South Sudan’s capital Juba have arrested at least five suspects in connection with the killing of two lactating mothers in Lakes state last month, according to a police media official.

The two women were killed in Akok village of Lakes in April when some men showed up to ask them for direction.

The two women then attempted to run away when they recognized the criminals, but were shot at and killed on the spot by the men.

No arrest had been made at the time of the incident.

Lakes state police spokesman Captain Elijah Mabor Makuach said five men who escaped Lakes have been intercepted and arrested in Juba by the police on Friday.

“They were arrested and they will be transported back to Lakes State to attend the case,” captain Mabor said, according to the Eye Radio yesterday.

“They were about six but five were arrested and one escaped but we are still following that criminal at large to bring him to book because they are armed youth criminals.”
