Eye Radio reports that over 200 people, most of whom are government officials, took to the streets of Malakal town to protest an order by the government transferring them to counties and other local government divisions.
“What happened is a demonstration in Malakal town this [Monday] morning at 9:30 am, and during the demonstration, some of the demonstrators threw stones at the organized force,” Major General Chol Atem, the police commissioner, said.
The senior police officer stated that at least “eight people got injured by the live bullets” and “two women and six men, and one of them [38-year-old Achol Gabriel Amum] died.”
General Achol Atem further said that one of the security officers was injured.
“One of the police forces was injured on his head with thrown stone and another one from national security was injured on his leg,” he added.
