JUBA – A seven-year-old young girl in Eastern Equatoria state has been shot and wounded during a rescue operation after suspected raiders from neighboring Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) attempted to abduct her, authorities say.

Isaac Mamur Okeny who is the chairperson of Ofiriha Community say the incident happened when the girl was abducted on Wednesday while on her way to school by suspected Murle armed men who ambushed the school children.

“There are children who are studying in a certain school in Ofiriha here. When these children were trying to cross to the side of the school, unfortunately, they found some unknown men and they started chasing them,” he is quoted by The City Review as saying.

“After chasing the children, they caught one young child because she could not run faster,” he added.
