“Abyei security situation tense,” chief administrator tells Kiir

JUBA – The Chief Administrator of the disputed Greater Abyei Administrative Area is telling South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardit, that security situation in the disputed South Sudan region is very tense following repeated attacks against civilians by armed Arab militia men from al-Miseriya.

The presidency said in a statement this afternoon that President Salva Kiir was briefed in his office by Kuol Deim Kuol, South Sudan’s Abyei Chief Administrator, on the security situation in the area which has seen several attacks in recent months by Arab militiamen.

“President Salva Kiir Mayardit was briefed in his Office this Monday morning, by the Chief Administrator of Abyei Administrative Area Hon. Kuol Deim Kuol. In his remarks to the media after the meeting, Hon. Kuol Deim Kuol said, he briefed H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit about the security situation of Abyei Administrative Area and the dire need for humanitarian assistance in Abyei,” the presidency statement reads in part.

“Hon. Kuol Deim Kuol said, the security situation in Abyei Administrative Area is tense due to the recent attack from Miseriya tribe of Sudan.  In addition, Hon. Kuol Deim Kuol also said, he was able to eliminate Roadblocks in Abyei Administrative Area to allow accessibility of humanitarian assistance to the areas,” the statement added.
