JUBA – The newly appointed Senior Presidential Envoy for Special Programs Adut Salva Kiir and Vice President Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel, who also chairs the Economic Cluster on Wednesday discuss the implementation of special programs launched by President Salva Kiir.

This comes after Adut, who was appointed by his father a week ago amid hyped expectations from citizens on improved service delivery, paid a courtesy visit to the office of Mel.

In a public statement issued Wednesday, the Vice President reportedly broke his silence since the controversial appointment of the first daughter to the position he previously held.

“Bol Mel congratulated Adut on her appointment, describing it as a clear demonstration of President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s commitment to entrusting capable and compassionate leaders with the nation’s most pressing priorities,” read the statement.

“Their discussions centered on the special programs launched by the President, with emphasis on ensuring swift and effective implementation to improve service delivery, strengthen livelihoods, and create new opportunities for citizens across the country,” it continues.

The Vice President pledged the Economic Cluster’s full cooperation in supporting the envoy’s mandate and urged other government clusters to rally behind her efforts.

Mel further appealed to the people of South Sudan to extend their support, noting that Adut’s track record in humanitarian and community service makes her well suited to the role.

“With her leadership, the vision of H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit will be translated into practical action that reaches every household,” Dr. Bol Mel said.

While Adut’s appointment is expected to inject new momentum into the delivery of special programs, which are central to the government’s broader agenda of peace, stability, and economic transformation, critics have been doubtful about whether she can prove leadership beyond family ties.

Her appointment followed the nomination of Kose James Wani Igga, the son of former Vice President Wani Igga, as the Executive Director of the South Sudan Roads Authority, replacing Kenyatta Benjamin in a controversial move mirroring nepotism.

It also seals off the list of the children of high-profile politicians winning political favours for top positions, encompassing Atong Kuol Manyang, the Minister of Trade and Industry, who is the daughter of Kuol Manyang Juuk, the Senior Advisor to Kiir.
