Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon is a South Sudanese politician who currently serves as the 3rd First Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan. Dr. Machar obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering in 1977 from the prestigious Khartoum University. He then won a scholarship in the United Kingdom where he also earned his Master’s Degree in Production Management and Manufacturing Technology from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland. He further went on to earn his PhD in Strategic Planning in Industry from the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom.

Honorable Michael Makuei Lueth is a South Sudanese politician who serves as the Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Service of the Revitalized Peace Agreement of the Republic of South Sudan. Honorable Lueth graduated from the University of Khartoum in Law in 1977 and then worked as a Legal Counsel and as a Judge before he joined the SPLM/A in 1983, where he progressed to the rank of Commander (Brig. General). During the civil war he also served as the SPLM/A’s Secretary and Commissioner for Legal Affairs. Before assuming his current post Lueth served as care-taker minister of parliamentary affairs following independence.
Michael Makuei Lueth was a leading member of South Sudan’s team of negotiators attending 2012 talks on post-partition issues between Sudan and South Sudan. He was a member of the government’s “special select” committee tasked by the cabinet to educate members of the general significance of the deal which the two sides had signed in September 2012.

Lieutenant-General Nhial Deng Nhial is a South Sudanese politician and a member of the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM). The most recent position he held was minister of presidential affairs from 2020 until 2021. He was Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2011 to 2013 and 2018 to 2019 after having served as the caretaker Minister of Defense since 10 July 2011. Prior to that, he served as the pre-independence South Sudanese Minister of SPLA and Veteran Affairs, from 22 December 2008 until 9 July 2011. He graduated in the early 1980s with the degree of Bachelor of Laws (LLB), from the University of Khartoum.

Dr. Abdalla Hamdok is a Sudanese public administrator who serves as the 15th Prime Minister of the Republic of the Sudan since 2019. Abdalla Hamdok holds a bachelor of science from the University of Khartoum and a doctorate in economic studies from the University of Manchester.
Prior to his appointment, Dr. Hamdok served in numerous national and international administrative positions. From November 2011 to October 2018, he was Deputy Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). UNECA staff described Hamdok as “A diplomat, a humble man and a brilliant and disciplined mind”. In August 2019, Hamdok was floated around as a likely candidate for Prime Minister of Sudan for the 2019 Sudanese transition to democracy.
9 – Hassan ‘Abd Allah al Turabi, PhD
Dr. Hassan ‘Abd Allah al Turabi was a Sudanese Islamist politician who was considered “the true architect” of 1989 coup that brought former Sudanese President Omar Hassan Ahmed Al-Bashir to power. He graduated from Khartoum University School of Law in 1955 and also studied in London and at the Sorbonne in Paris in 1962, where he gained a PhD. He became a leader of the Sudanese Muslim Brotherhood in the early 1960s.He is a descendant of a famous 17th-century religious sheikh, Hamad al-Turabi.
He has been called “one of the most influential figures in modern Sudanese politics”, and a “longtime hard-line ideological leader”. He was instrumental in institutionalizing sharia (Islamic law) in the northern part of the country and was frequently imprisoned in Sudan, but these “periods of detention” were “interspersed with periods of high political office”. He passed away on 5 March 2016.

Ali Osman Mohammed Taha is a Sudanese politician who was First Vice President of Sudan from July 2011 to December 2013. He studied law from the University of Khartoum in the 1960s. Previously he was Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1993 to 1995, First Vice President from 1995 to January 2005, and Second Vice President from August 2005 to July 2011. He is a member of the National Congress Party.
My father went and studied at the University Khartoum, He was killed at battle of Rokon, a few mile a way from downtown Juba, from Raat battalion, Koryom division (Locoust/ grasshoper) in 1992.
