Armed youth reportedly mobilizing in Pibor to attack Bor, Greater Akobo

BOR – A senior South Sudan state government official in the country’s Jonglei state is telling Sudans Post that they have gathered credible reports that armed youth from neighboring Greater Pibor Administrative Area are mobilizing to attack villages in Jonglei state’s Duks, Bor and Greater Akobo, appealing to the army in Juba to prepare to protect the civilians there.

“We have gathered credible information that Murle youth are mobilizing for attacks in Bor, Greater Akobo and Duks,” the official who refused not to be named because he is not authorities to speak to the media on the matter said.

“We believes that these attack may happen in the next few weeks, if not days because according to intelligence reports, these people have already mobilized in big numbers like it never happened and this if it happen it will cause a great humanitarian crisis not only here in Bor, but all over the state and the GPAA itself,” the official added.

The senior government official further appealed to the SSPDF command in Juba to send forces to prevent escalation of violence in there.

Another government official in Bor refused to comment, but confirmed that they have got some indications that “there is mobilization for war from the side of the Murle youth there and the authorities there are said to be watching.”

The report of mobilization for ethnic violence in Jonglei state come days after a United Nations Panel of experts said in a report to the United Nations Security Council last week that the parties to the revitalized peace agreement in South Sudan, the SSPDF, and the SPLA-IO, have participate in the ethnic violence in the Greater Jonglei between February and March.

The report accused South Sudan’s spy chief, General Akol Koor Kuc and the SSPDF’s intelligence chief, General Ring Tueny, of supplying arms to civilians in Pibor ahead of attacks against civilians in Greater Akobo villages and some parts of Gawaar areas. The same report also accused unnamed SPLA-IO commanders, as well as the government’s external security chief, General Duoth Guet, of providing arms to Gawaar and Lou-Nuer civilians.
