JUBA — The South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) has assigned General Akuei Ajou as commander of its 3rd infantry division months after the division’s then commander General Santino Deng Wol was appointed by Kiir as the army chief.

Speaking to Sudans Post in an exclusive interview this morning, an army source in Bilpam said General Ajou was informed of his assignment on yesterday and is due to take up the position within one week to avoid power vacuum in the division.

“Yes I can confirm that Major-General Akuei Ajou has been appointed as the commander of the division 3 in Wunyiik in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state,” the senior army general who refused to be identified because he is not permitted to speak to the media before the army said.

“He was appointed last week and was I no armed of his new assignment by the General Headquarters yesterday and he will take over his position immediately,” he added.

General Ajou will now replace General Santino Deng who was appointed chief of defense forces of the SSPDF in April by President Salva Kiir Mayardit. The position has been vacant since then.
