JUBA – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has on Tuesday evening replaced the Director of Chieftaincy for Military Intelligence General Ring Tueny Mabor and appointed Lieutenant General Marshal Stephen Babanen as the replacement.

This comes as Kiir issued several republican decrees through the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) in which he also removed the governor of the restive Lakes state who was then replaced with General Tueny.

General Marshal previously served as the Military Operations Commander. He was appointed to that position in June 2020 following the defection of senior SPLA-IO commander General James Koang Chuol Ranley to Kiir in January that year.
