Diing Aher Ngong, who was accompanied on Wednesday by county officials, including Peace Coordinator Luka Luach, toured Madupbo, Agok, and Angot in Warguet Payam, which is close to South Kordofan and Darfur.
Speaking to residents who greeted him with high expectations, Aher acknowledged their challenges and promised support. “We are aware of the difficulties you face,” he said, according to local sources.
Deng Akok, a county government official, noted that Aher met with local chiefs to discuss community needs.
“The Commissioner briefed residents in Madupbo, Agok, and other parts of Warguet Payam,” Akok said. He added that Aher urged the Rezeigat and locals to coexist peacefully and rebuild their lives together.
Aher emphasized resolving social issues harmoniously, discouraging residents from taking the law into their own hands. He referenced existing peace accords between the Rezeigat and Misseriya, urging both communities to honor them.
However, residents in these remote border areas remain skeptical. Many feel neglected by government officials, who they claim prioritize personal interests over pressing issues like famine, poor roads, and inadequate schools. It remains unclear whether Aher’s assurances will translate into meaningful change for these underserved communities.
