Governor Riek Bim Top, who presided over the event, described the station’s revival as a major milestone in strengthening peace, unity, and development in the flood-affected oil-rich state. He said the radio will play a vital role in raising awareness on critical community issues such as health, education, hygiene, agriculture, and environmental protection.
“The revitalized Bentiu Radio will serve as a tool for information sharing and community education. It will help our people stay informed, promote peaceful coexistence, and support local development efforts,” Governor Bim said during the launch.
The reopening ceremony brought together senior government officials, ministers, and local leaders, reflecting the importance attached to the station’s return. Many residents described the moment as a sign of progress and renewed hope after years of disrupted communication services caused by conflict and natural disasters.
The revival of Bentiu Radio is expected to bridge the information gap between citizens and the government, offering a reliable platform for public dialogue and accountability. With its new FM frequency, the station aims to reach audiences across Bentiu and surrounding counties, making it a key driver of civic engagement and information sharing in Unity State.
Engineer Gatwech Bipal Both, the State Minister of Information, confirmed that Bentiu Radio 99.0 FM went back on air on Monday after one full year of inactivity. He explained that the station, which is fully funded by the Unity State government, currently has a transmission range of about 115 kilometers from Bentiu Town.
“The radio will help the government conduct peace awareness programs and encourage communities to report incidents in real time,” Minister Both said. “Bentiu Radio operates 24 hours a day and is linked to the South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC).”
With continued government support and community participation, Bentiu Radio is poised to become a beacon of hope, unity, and development for the people of Unity State.
