The women accuse Ateny of being a “land thief” and are demanding that he not be sworn in.
“We don’t want Ateny. He has been stealing land and our properties. There is no way a land thief can come in the form of a county commissioner,” one woman told Sudans Post in Bor.
“If he was stealing when he was just a mayor, what would he do after getting the full power of being the commissioner?” she questioned.
They also accuse deputy governor Jacob Akech Dengdit and national information minister Michael Makuei Lueth of supporting Ateny’s appointment.
“The Juba government especially Michael Makuei Lueth and the deputy governor of Jonglei state Akech are supporting him to be the commissioner. This is unacceptable and we urge our president, Cde Salva Kiir Mayardit to come in and remove them,” another woman said.
“We don’t want Ateny to be sworn in as commissioner, if he does, we will continue to protest even for the deputy governor and Michael Makuei Lueth to be removed,” she threatened.
The protest stems from controversy involving Ateny and the female traders during his previous role as mayor of Bor Municipal, which led to his removal by Governor Denay Jock Chagor late last month.
Tensions between the Bor municipality and local businesswomen have been escalating due to the allocation of land meant for a market to investors.
Bor county women have amazed me indeed, “saying if the man can progressively steal real physical property like Land when he was just a mere mayor, what do you think he would do when he becomes a commissioner? A very bold question indeed😂😂.
Yes it is their right to stand against what seem non accommodatable by law. I said Fighting corruption is a dangerous battle, and it can not be a war that could be fought by one person, but by the residents or the critical majority in the state.
I said this because if today what Bor county women started is to be exercise in the whole country, Corruption would definitely be smash out of power, it is the only way in which any corrupt individual can receive a terrified vaccination against pervasive political corruption and misappropriation of public fund, and the development come automatically.
If I were to be in the same system responsible for the appointment of the commissioner today, I would definitely appoint the woman who spoke these fluent words against corruption, because it is obvious if she really mean what she said during this protest is right, there is no way her leadership wouldn’t outsmart corruption in Bor county, because she will do what is right. Government should listen to their suffering at least.
