LONDON – The United Kingdom has appointed a new ambassador to South Sudan, according to a statement by the UK foreign office.

Ambassador John Baxter who is currently the Kingdom’s deputy director of finance performance department for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) will replace Christ Trott who has been serving as UK ambassador to South Sudan since 2019.

“Mr Jonny Baxter has been appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of South Sudan in succession to Mr Christopher Trott who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment,” the UK said in a statement.

“Mr Baxter will take up his appointment during January 2021,” the statement seen by Sudans Post added.

Britain is one of the largest donors of South Sudan and is a guarantor of the revitalized peace agreement since in September 2018.
