JUBA, FEBRUARY 23rd 2023 (SUDANS POST) – The British government on Thursday replaced its ambassador to South Sudan, according to a statement by the foreign and common wealth office.
In a statement, the Foreign Common Wealth & Development Office (FCDO) said that Ambassador Guy Warrington will replace John Baxter who was appointed in 2020 to replace Christ Trott who had served since 2019.
“Mr Guy Warrington has been appointed His Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of South Sudan in succession to Mr Jonny Baxter who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment,” the FCDO statement reads in part.
It further added that the new ambassador “will take up his appointment during March 2023.”
Ambassador Warrington has previously served as the deputy director of East African Humanitarian affairs for the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, the British ambassador to Mali, and the British High Commissioner in Sierra Leone.
Britain is one of a few South Sudan powerful friends. It contributed alongside the United States of America to the independent of South Sudan in 2011 after pressuring Islamist Khartoum regime to accept the signing and full implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA).
