Britain says terrorist attacks in South Sudan ‘can’t be ruled out’ in latest travel advise

JUBA – The British government has announced in its latest travel advice for South Sudan that terrorist attacks in the world’s youngest and war-ravaged country can’t be ruled out saying such attacks could be indiscriminate.

“There’s a heightened threat of terrorist attack globally against UK interests and British nationals, from groups or individuals motivated by conflicts in Iraq, Libya, Somalia and Syria,”  the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) said in the advice this afternoon.

“Terrorist attacks in South Sudan can’t be ruled out. Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreigners,” it adds.

While highlighting increasing decline of security along major highways across the country, the advice urged British citizens to “exercise caution and vigilance at all times and avoid any travel during the hours of darkness.”

“The main road connecting Juba to Uganda is extremely dangerous, with regular reports of accidents and attacks on vehicles by armed groups.”
