In a statement, the deputy chief administrator of Greater Pibor Administrative Area John Abula said that the attack occurred on Thursday night in a place called Tirito when armed youth from Jonglei launched the attack on the Greater Pibor traders heading with cattle to Juba.
“The government of Greater Pibor Administrative Area learns with dismay the assault orchestrated by Dinka Bor armed criminal Youths that lurked ambush on 14/09/2023 at 9 pm in Tirito against GPAA Cattle traders that were heading to Juba to sale their cattle,” the statement said.
While the statement did not point out as to if there were human casualties, it condemned the attack and called for it to try to get in touch with the government of Jonglei State in order to identify the criminals and bring them to book.
“It’s barbaric act and the government of GPAA strongly condemns it in possible term the heinous crime perpetrated by the suspected armed Youths from Bor/JS and call upon the Youth of Greater Pibor Administrative Area to remain Calm as the authority is trying to establish communication with the government of Jonglei State to identify, apprehend and account the perpetrators for their inhumane deed. In that attack 4,000 plus herds of cattle were looted,” the statement said.
“The government of Greater Pibor Administrative Area under the leadership of HE Lokoli Ame, always preach words of peace to the Youths of Greater Pibor Administrative Area to remain calm in wherever they reside to give peace a chance for the citizen of the two sisterly States to enjoy peace dividend,” it said.
The statement said that “The attack of 14/09/2023 caught everybody by surprise, and in regard to that incident the two governments need not to succumb to the evil act of those criminals rather we need to double our efforts to deter them from inflicting more damage on our people.”
