BOR – At least two people were killed and ten others were injured in a cattle raid that took place on Tuesday in Twic East County of Jonglei State.

The raid was carried out by suspected raiders from Greater Pibor Administrative Area, who stole approximately 500 cattle.

Maj. Gen. Elia Costa, Jonglei State Police Commissioner, told Sudans Post on Wednesday that the attackers took advantage of the rainy season, which makes it difficult to mobilize security forces. He added that local youth managed to recover some of the stolen cattle.

“Yesterday at 3:30 pm, we received a report from Twic East County that criminals came and attacked and took about 500 cattle, the youth followed them and they clashed with the youth and they managed to recover some of the cattle,” said Gen. Costa.

“During those clashes, two people died and 10 were wounded. The criminals are from Greater Pibor Administrative Area. During this rainy season, it is difficult to move there, but the authorities are trying to mobilize the people to help track down the perpetrators and recover the stolen cattle,” he added.

Deng Dau Deng, Chairperson of Twic East County Parliamentary Caucus at the National Legislative Assembly, condemned the attack and called on both state and national governments to take appropriate measures to protect the lives and property of the people of Twic East County.

He also urged the leadership of Greater Pibor Administrative Area to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“We call upon both State and National Government to take appropriate measures to ensure safety and protection of the life and properties of people of Twic East County,” said Deng.

Efforts to reach Abraham Kelang, GPAA information Minister for comments were not successful.
