RUMBEK – Residents of Rumbek, capital of Lakes State of South Sudan, are expected to have access to electricity in October, according to Governor Gen. Rin Tueny Mabor.

Gen. Tueny said Egyptian engineers have resumed construction of Rumbek electricity distribution station after almost eight years of halt.

“We are going to have electricity in October. Power is life, if you have electricity, you would have industries and if you have electricity, you would develop very fast,” Mabor said during thanksgiving ceremony to honor him for his role in restoring peace and stability in the state.

The project to construct an electricity distribution center in Rumbek began in 2013, but was halted following the outbreak of civil war in December that year.

The power station located at PDU 4KM outside Rumbek town was donated by Egyptian government in 2008.

Mabor said the power will benefit residents Rumbek and its suburbs.

“So this is a very big input and this power station is donated by the Egyptian government in 2008, it has not been functional but they are now working on it and it will be operational,” Mabor said.

Mabor encourage d business to invest in Lakes State, citing stable security.

“For those who are doing businesses, the power is there, the security is there and there are people there and we have market and so we are inviting our investors to come Lakes State to invest,” he said.
