JUBA – The governor of South Sudan’s Central Equatoria state has dismissed the mayor of Juba City, Mr. Kalisto Lado, according to a gubernatorial decree extended to Sudans Post newspaper.

“Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony has today issued a Gubernatorial Decree for the Relieve of the Mayor of Juba City Council (JCC), Central Equatoria State, 2021 AD,” Central Equatoria governor’s office reads in part.

While no reason has been given as to why the verdict was made by the governor, the statement said “Pronouncement for the incoming Mayor of Juba City Council shall be availed to the public domain as soon as possible.”

‘Patriotic Servant’

The public seems to be angered by the decision of the government of Central Equatoria state to remove Mr. Kalisto with some saying President Salva Kiir Mayardit should also remove governor Adil for removing Kalisto.

“President Kiir should relieve Governor of Central Equatoria Hon. Adil for relieving a capable and competent young man. The former Mayor of Juba City was doing the right things. Instead Kalisto Lado deserves Governor Position than just a Mayor because of his capability. This is time for capable people in South Sudan to work in the government,” wrote one commentator on Facebook.

“There are high demands from South Sudanese globally for Kalisto Lado to be a Governor of CES instead and Adil should go home peacefully. This is not a time for incapable leaders like Hon. Emmanuel Adil Anthony. Hon. Adil deserves to be relieved as soon as possible,” he added.

Another social media user said “Kiir’s government doesn’t want a patriotic servant. Juba city mayor has challenged them that’s why he is removed.”
