They are Justin Majok Manyiel, Commissioner of Wulu County, Daniel Deng Mario, Commissioner of Cueibet County, and Makeny Marial Anuer, Commissioner of Yirol West County.
The governor of Lakes State, Gen. Rin Tueny Mabor, welcomed the newly appointed and sworn-in commissioners. He urged them to work hard for the government of Lakes State.
“Our first mission is peace in all eight counties, payams, and Bomas levels of Lakes State,” he said.
He emphasized the importance of implementing the revitalized peace agreement, saying it was crucial for bringing the people of South Sudan together.
The governor warned that without implementing the peace agreement, there would be no progress. He highlighted the upcoming elections in December 2024 as part of the transition process.
He acknowledged the differing opinions on whether to hold elections but stressed the need to eventually elect new leaders for stability and peace in the Republic of South Sudan.
He reminded the people of Lakes State of the challenges they had faced in the past and encouraged them to sustain the current peace. He emphasized the importance of agriculture for peace and prosperity in the state.
Ustaz Gabriel Kuc Abiei, the former deputy national minister of higher education, advised the commissioners to work as a team with a common motto, direction, and course of action. He emphasized the importance of consultation among themselves and with higher authorities.
He urged them to work for the people without discrimination and to discharge their duties diligently and faithfully.
Justin Majok Manyiel, the commissioner of Wulu County, expressed gratitude to Governor Rin Tueny Mabor and President Salva Kiir Mayardit for appointing them as commissioners. He assured the governor that they would work diligently to serve the community of Lakes State.
He highlighted their priorities, including handling the fragile economic situation, peace, development, and prosperity, as well as ensuring security provisions and creating a conducive environment for the civil population.
He emphasized the importance of working hand in hand with development partners and empowering traditional authority leaders to address criminal cases.
Commissioner Manyiel also recognized the importance of good governance for effective security and emphasized the need to implement the principles and policies of the Lakes State government.
He committed to discharging his primary roles and responsibilities in accordance with the state development plan and local government act.
