Defunct Eastern Lakes minister apologizes for using Facebook to ‘hurt’ others

JUBA – Former minister for physical infrastructure for South Sudan’s defunct Eastern Lakes state, Abraham Majak Makur, has apologized for expressing grievances on social media giant, Facebook, according to a statement seen by Sudans Post.

For the last few months, Makur has been on loggerheads with local government officials over how corruption in being addressed in the defunct Eastern Lakes.

In a statement on Saturday Makur apologized and said social media’s Facebook was not supposed to be the platform in which politicians raise grievances which he said sometimes hurts other people.

“Based on my own true conscience, I realized that I was also touching on the wrong button – the offensive button, thinking it was the defensive one. With this defensive button, I had been hurting others unknowingly than my intended targets,” he said.

“Today, it is not too late to turn around and say, ‘take my sincere apologies.’ I apologizes publicly to those whom I have been inadvertently hurting. I have also forgiven those who had been nagging me, while observing my boundaries,” former minister added.

Makur however said the utterance of apology “doesn’t mean, I am leaving Facebook but to be objective and remain focused on national matters than being engaged on subjective matters of self-defense.”

“I repeat, for those whom I have been unintentionally hurting, please forgive me and to the rest, I have forgiven you, although we will not be dealing with one another on Facebook, we shall try to create other avenues for our issues to get better solutions.”
