JUBA – South Sudan health officials have said a plan by the African Union to deliver 59,000 coronavirus vaccine doses to the country on Tuesday has been delayed due to logistic challenges.

On Sunday, the government announced that it will receive 59000 doses from the Africa Union through Africa CDC and 132000 doses from GAVI through the COVAX facility.

Speaking to Sudans Post this afternoon, George Auzanio Legge, Extended Program on Immunization (EPI) Manager said the plan to import COVID-19 vaccine has been suspended until further notice.

“The COID-19 vaccine has been suspended until further notice. The reasons are still from their side, like the logistical arrangement has not been prepared well,” Gorge told Sudans Post reporter in Juba.

Auzanio said the African Center for Disease Control (CDS) couldn’t prepare a plane on time to transport vaccines to Juba.

“When we are talking about logistics there are many things, for example, maybe it is about vehicles or they are not able to prepare a plane in time. DC Africa is the only one responsible for all these things,” he said.
