General Shams Al-Din fled alongside defense minister Maj. Gen. Yassin Ibrahim after having been in the general command of the army forces since the beginning of the war between the army the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in April.
“The good news is that the deputy commander of the Sudanese Army General Shams Al-Din Kabashi today arrived in Wadi Seedna with the minister of defense, and they traveled from the General Command without any problem,” the military source said.
The latest flight of a senior army officer comes several months after General Abdelfattah al-Burhan, the head of the army and de facto president of Sudan, left the army command in Khartoum in a risky journey in which two members of his team were killed and eleven others were wounded.
Kabashi and the defense minister are expected to travel to Port Sudan, the temporary capital of the country, “to help in the plans for eradication of the rebellion and the foreign forces who are destroying the country,” according to the source.
