EAC allocates 7 positions to South Sudanese, Kiir told

The East African Community (EAC) has allocated at least seven senior positions to South Sudanese, a top East African Community envoy has told President Salva Kiir Mayardit this evening.

JUBA — The East African Community (EAC) has allocated at least seven senior positions to South Sudanese, a top East African Community envoy has told President Salva Kiir Mayardit this evening.

Kiir met in his office, according to a statement by presidency, with the secretary-general of the East African Community who briefed him about the full integration of South Sudan into the regional community.

“His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit met in his Office, with the Secretary General of the East African Community, Hon (Dr.) Peter Mathuki and his accompanying delegation,” the presidency said.

“The delegation came to brief H. E.  the President on the efforts they are making to fully integrate South Sudan into East African Community,” the statement added.

It revealed that the EAC delegation “delegation also came to brief H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit on the agenda for the East African Community Heads of State summit that is scheduled to take place from 21st- 22nd July this year in Arusha.”

The delegation, the statement said, informed Kiir that the East African Community secretariat allocated seven positions to South Sudan and commended Kiir for the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

“They also informed H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit that East African Community will be recruiting more than 7 positions for South Sudan to be included into the East African secretariat,” the statement said.

“They commended President Salva Kiir Mayardit for the efforts made on the implementation of the revitalised peace agreement, and the infrastructure development in the country,” the statement added.
