JUBA – The Chairperson of the South Sudan Business Community, Ayii Duang Ayii, has warned against scheme practiced by unscrupulous businessmen from East Africa who repack expired goods for re-sale to innocent South Sudanese.

Duang revealed that the unnamed businessmen from East Africa have been repacking goods in new bags with new manufacturing and expiry dates.

“We buy expired goods which are packed very well outside but inside, they are expired, and we have talked with East African Business Council to offer a chance for South Sudan to buy directly from the factory,” Duang told reporters during a press conference in Juba on Saturday.

Duang stressed the need for South Sudan to buy goods directly from factories in a bid to avoid buying poisonous food.

“We should be buying goods directly from the factory because some of these goods in the market are fake, especially in all 8 countries,” he said.

He said South Sudan has inked an importation deal with Tanzania.

“We have agreed with Tanzania to give us opportunities so that we can import goods from Tanzania.  We need to have chances of imports; we have been given open spaces for exports, and they will give us hard currency,” he said.

“We also talk to bring our imports through Dar Salam, and we will have no charges for goods transit to south Sudan, we have agreed percentage, especially with industries, and we, apply to the business council,” he added.
