JUBA – The governor of South Sudan’s oil-rich Unity State Nguen Manytuil Wejang has said that his government is doing its best to make sure that those he identified as ‘terrorists’ are cleared from the entire of the state.
Manytuil who was speaking to a group of supporters in Bentiu on Sunday was referring to the South Sudan People’s Movement/Army (SSPM/A) led by General Stephen Buay Rolnyang whose forces attacked Mayom town to kill Mayom County Commissioner Maj. Gen. Chuol Gatluak Manimeh.
“I wish to assure the people and government of Unity State that the State Government is doing its utmost to contain and crush the terrorists that have been menacing our citizens and their property in some parts of the Northern Unity,” Manytuil said.
“On behalf of the Government and peoples of Unity State, I commend the efforts of the State Government to respond to the demands of development and human security,” the governor further added.
Since the killing of the Mayom commissioner, fighting has been ongoing in different parts of Mayom County with forces of General Buay attacking a South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) convoy traveling to Mayom carrying military supplies.
The army has directed a counter attack against Buay’s forces and said the government will not stand and watch while its forces are being attacked.
