Egyptian engineers to resume construction of Rumbek electricity station

RUMBEK – Egyptian engineers are expected to resume – this year – the construction of Rumbek electricity distribution station, after almost seven-year halt, a senior state government official said.

The project to construct an electricity distribution centre in Rumbek began in 2010, but was halted following the outbreak of civil war in December 2013.

Speaking to Sudans Post on Tuesday, Mayoor Mou, the Press Secretary in the office of Lakes state governor said the head of the Egyptian engineer and the undersecretary of the North African country’s ministry of electricity visited Rumbek this morning ahead of resumption.

“Electricity in the city is a kind of service that provides security to the market and the people.  It is privilege by the state leadership to welcome this ideal of revisiting the construction sites of Rumbek town electricity which was in initiated in 2010,” Mou said.

The gubernatorial aide said that the construction of electricity distribution centre was in progress when it was interrupted by the outbreak of war he said forced engineers to flee the town in December 2013.

“Today we are very happy the Egyptian’ Engineers are revisiting the electricity  project to ensure that it is fixed and the power comes back to Rumbek town,” he said.

Yesterday, the Governor of Lakes state Makur Kulang Liei held a lengthy meeting with the visiting Egyptian officials at his residence in Rumbek, according to the gubernatorial media aide.
