Egyptian group, CES governor discuss reconstruction of century-old Juba hotel

JUBA – South Sudan’s Central Equatoria state government is in talks with an Egyptian investment group for reconstruction of a century-old Juba hotel, according to statement issued this morning.

According to the statement, representatives of the Bahagat group who are currently in Juba have met the Central Equatoria state governor, Emmanuel Adil Anthony, at his residence in Juba this morning to discuss the plan.

“In a move to bring former Juba Hotel to its lively glory as being one of the historical hotels in south Sudan, the Governor of Central Equatoria state, Hon. Emmanuel Adil Anthony has today morning in his residence discussed efforts on rebuilding the former Juba Hotel with the Bahgat group of companies and as well other areas of potentialities that will mutually benefit the people of Central Equatoria State,” the governor’s press unity said.

The statement said the government and the Egyptian multi-purposes group “expressed similar sentiments on coordination and cooperation as the only way to speed up the project.”

For her part, Saly Atef, a member of board of directors and public relations officer for the Egyptian company confirmed to Sudans Post separately that the group and the Central Equatoria state government were in discussion for a possible understanding for the reconstruction of the almost-century-old hotel.

“I can confirm that such preparations are going on with the government of Central Equatoria state and we this morning met the governor and discussion will continue on how this project will begin,” she told Sudans Post from Juba.

The Juba Hotel was build in the early 1900s by the Anglo-Egyptian colonization of Sudan and it hosted the historic 1947 Juba conference.
