ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia’s rebel Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) has vowed to continue its fight against the government in Addis Ababa until Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is toppled.

In a statement marking one year since the rebel group begun an advance against Ethiopian federal forces, TPLF spokesman Getachew K. Reda said his group will continue the fight until when Abiy is toppled.

“Exactly a year ago today, our forces defeated the most organized & massive encirclement & siege on our forces by the Ethiopian& Eritrean armies with the routing Werqadino of half a dozen Eritrean divisions deployed to capture or wipe out Tigray’s military& civilian leadership,” Getachew wrote on Twitter.

“Werqadino was one of the most defining engagements in the annals of the Tigray Resistance as it showed Isaias & his generals their Tigray misadventure was certainly going to cost them more than they could bargain for.

“With more devastating losses the following days, it soon became obvious that their campaigns would only expose them to more staggering losses.

“They did also realize the movement they had long declared dead was alive & kicking. As we mark this day, let it be clear that we won’t stop until the status quo ante is restored and fully!”
