MALAKAL — Former South Sudan minister of petroleum Stephen Dhieu Dau was elected on Tuesday as the chairman of the Greater Melut Community, according to a community leader who spoke to Sudans Post from Melut.

“This is to inform the media that Honorable Stephen Dhieu Dau has been successfully elected by the people of Greater Melut, Agieer and Nyiel, as the chairman of the Greater Melut Community,” the official who wants to stay anonymous because he is not permitted to speak to the media on behalf of the community said.

“He was elected by all people and the other candidate has already conceded and has also promised to work together despite the problems that we faced during the campaign,” he added.

Dau is a renowned banker who has worked in the national government in Juba as minister of finance and economic planning, minister of petroleum and minister of investment.

Prior to those assignments, he was previously a minister of finance, trade and industry of the Upper Nile state.
