JUBA – Former South Sudan main armed opposition group SPLM-IO’s commissioner of Unity state’s Koch County and current head of Unity state HIV Commission Nhial Kam Both has been arrested by the National Security Service (NSS) in Juba after being mistaken for another person who is accused of having links with opposition commander General Stephen Buay Rolnyang.

Speaking to Sudans Post this afternoon, a family member who refused not to be named said Kam was arrested on Sunday night by men in National Security Service (NSS) uniform because they thought he was Nhial Ruai, another person with the same name, but who hails from Mayom County who is suspected of support General Buay.

“South Sudan’s National Security Service arrested on Sunday night former SPLM-IO Commissioner of Koch county and current head of Unity State’s HIV Commissioner Nhial Kam Both because he was mistaken for someone who has the same name like him,” the family member who refused not to be named told Sudans Post from Juba this afternoon.

“They arrested him because there is a guy with the same name Nhial Ruai Kam Kuon who is supporting General Stephen Buay Rolnyang. But the other guy is from Mayom County where General Buay Rolnyang comes from and they thought he is the one, we told them that he is not the one they are looking for but they are still holding him,” he added.

The family member further revealed that the former opposition County commissioner was beaten almost to death by security operatives and appealed to the SPLM-IO to intervene so that the victim of wrong identification is released and return home in order to treat his wounds.

“Next yesterday he was beaten by government security forces in Juba almost to death,” the family member further added.
