JUBA – South Sudan’s minister of humanitarian affairs and disaster management, Peter Mayen Majokdit, on Thursday had a fist fight with a local businessman over unfulfilled car purchase, according to a Sudans Post witness.

The fist fight happened at Tongping neighborhood when a local businessman (name withheld) decided to detain one of the vehicles of the minister after the minister failed to respect terms of the contracts including the payment of at least $440,000 that he had pledged to pay following his appointment.

Earlier this week, a court in Juba ordered that one of the cars (V8 with plate number 292-266) belonging to the minister be given back to the owner after the minister failed to pay the cost of the car for the period that was agreed in the contract between the minister and the businessman.

However, minister Mayen objected to the order and went on to take the car by force, and a fist fight ensued between the minister and the businessman who had also threatened to open a gun against the minister whose body guards had also fled the scene.

Mayen was supposed, according to the businessman who spoke to Sudans Post, to pay the remaining balance since before eight months ago.  A total of four cars were given to Mayen on personal basis.

According to the businessman, the contract was signed with Mayen in his personal capacity and was not signed with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.
